PLA strives to make sure that all programs are intersting, exciting & relevant to the real world, to not only transform youth into productive individuals, but also to spark intellectual curiosity & develop a capacity for participation in their future communities.


We provide students with a world-class education in an urban setting. Our curriculum provides an opportunity for students to graduate with a diploma & confidence to demonstrate their mastery of the core competencies that are essential for academic & personal success. Every student is prepared for college, careers & beyond.


A course that is designed to assist students in developing technological proficiencies in word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, communications, Internet use, ethics, and careers using technology applications.

The primary purpose is to train students in the basic manipulative skills, safety, work habits, and attitude necessary to pass the State Board examination and for competency in job entry level positions in Cosmetology or related career field.


Gain practical culinary skills that increase in complexity throughout the program. The program begins with an orientation-level course introducing students to topics such as food safety, sanitation, knife skills, basic nutrition, appetizers, sandwiches, baking, and menu planning.

This course is designed to provide students with a working knowledge of computer concepts and essential skills necessary for work and communication in today's society. Students will learn safety, security, and ethical issues in computing and social networking.


Work-study is a way for PLA students to earn money to pay for school through part-time on (and sometimes off) campus jobs. Work-study gives our students an opportunity to gain valuable work experience while pursuing a college degree.

The construction, programming, and use of robots (specialized machines) to perform assigned tasks. Becoming familiar with robotics can lay the foundation for a career at the cutting edge of science, and give a better understanding of the ways technology can be used to solve real-world problems.
